“The Garden: Real and Imagined,” a sculptural installation made entirely of cardboard, is on display in the Bancroft Gallery at South Shore Art Center from June 3 through July 14, 2013. Created by sixteen local high school students with seven faculty advisors, this is the second ART STARS program hosted by the Art Center for high school artists. Nominated by their high school art teachers, the ART STARS represent twelve towns from Braintree to Norwood to Whitman and Hanson. The students and faculty worked together for six Saturdays since early March to choose the theme of the installation, do preliminary drawings and work with a variety of cardboard techniques to carry out their concept for “The Garden.” Their five individual sculptures create a fantastic garden environment with walkways garlanded with flowers, monumental arches and bridges encased in vines, trees of all types, an abundance of living creatures—spiders, butterflies, frog, snail—even a waterfall and illuminated lamppost surrounded by swirling insects.
FESTIVAL ART STARS is supported by grants from the local cultural councils of Download comments about the Art Stars |
