Joseph Carroll—Juror, Biography
Joseph Carroll is the owner and director of Carroll and Sons, an art gallery in the South End neighborhood of Boston. Born in Ohio, Joseph attended Miami University where he received a BFA in Environmental Design in 1986. He moved to Boston in 1988 and for ten years worked in the field of environmental design. During that time he continued his studies in art history and studio practice. In 1997, he enrolled in the MA program at New York University and graduated in 1999. Back in Boston he worked with Dan Elias at Elias Fine Art. During his time with Elias Fine Art, Joseph curated many exhibitions including Yayoi Kusama: Drawing/Painting/Sculpture; the award-winning group exhibition Asphalt; and Charles Long: One Hundred Pounds of Clay, now in the collection of the Orange County (CA) Museum of Art. In 2003, he became director of the Bernard Toale Gallery in Boston’s South End. In 2008, he took over the gallery and renamed it Carroll and Sons.
